Hurricane Hanna Tropical Storm Hanna Update

All Tropical Storm WARNINGS have been discontinued from Cape Fear, NC southward.

AT 8:00 AM Saturday, the center of Tropical Storm Hanna was located near latitude 35.6 N, longitude 78.1 W, or approximately 266 nautical miles northeast of Chatham County. Movement is to the northeast at approximately 22 MPH. Hanna is expected to pick up forward speed as she moves over North Carolina and weaken by Sunday.

CEMA has returned to Operating Conditions 5.

Hurricane Ike is currently located at Latitude 22.0 N, longitude 67.9 W and moving at a speed of 16 MPH. It is expected that Ike will continue moving to the west – southwest and then make a shift to the west tomorrow.

Hurricane Ike’s maximum sustained winds are 115 MPH with higher gusts. He is currently a category 3 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Ike is not forecast to affect Chatham County.

Josephine has dissipated over the Atlantic and is currently a Tropical Depression. It is not anticipated that Josephine will strengthen over the next few days.
