The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is at limited activation. At 5:00 AM on September 10, 2005 Tropical Storm Ophelia was located near latitude 31.2 North longitude 76.8 West or about 220 miles Southeast of Savannah, GA. Ophelia is moving toward the northeast near ten mph. A decrease in forward speed is expected today. Reports from NOAA reconnaissance aircraft indicate that Ophelia has maximum sustained winds near 70 mph with higher gusts. However, some strengthening is forecast and Ophelia could again become a hurricane during the next 24 hours. Please keep in mind that minor changes with each advisory could result in major changes to the forecast track and storm dynamics. CEMA remains at Operating Condition (OPCON) 4 which is the first stage of advanced readiness. A thorough check of emergency supplies and evacuation plans is in order. Emergency response agencies should review their hurricane plans and determine the availability of their assets, resources and personnel.
