| Tropical Storm Ophelia 9/11/2005 11:00 am |

At 1100 AM on September 11, 2005 Hurricane Ophelia is drifting in the Atlantic but may begin to move towards the Northwest later today or tonight. Under the current forecast track, Hurricane Ophelia poses no threat to Coastal Georgia. Hurricane Ophelia is located near latitude 31.6 North longitude 75.7 West or about 265 miles Southeast of Charleston, S.C. A Hurricane Watch remains in effect from Edisto Beach South Carolina North to Cape Lookout North Carolina. Ophelia has maximum sustained winds near 80 mph with higher gusts making Ophelia a strong Category 1 hurricane. No significant change in strength during the next 24 hours is forecasted. Please keep in mind that minor changes with each advisory could result in major changes to the forecast track and storm dynamics. Under the current forecast track, Ophelia is expected to make landfall in the vicinity of Southern North Carolina Tuesday Evening. CEMA remains at Operating Condition (OPCON) 4, which is the first stage of advanced readiness. A thorough check of emergency supplies and evacuation plans is in order. Emergency response agencies should review their hurricane plans and determine the availability of their assets, resources and personnel. Those agencies that have the responsibility to share information should be doing so at this time. The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is not activated. CEMA Staff will continue to monitor the progress of the storm. The next information release will be issued as conditions warrant |
