News CEMA Returns to Normal Operations

CEMA Returns to Normal Operations
Savannah, GA - (August 26, 2011)

Now that Hurricane Irene's center of circulation has passed by the Georgia coast, the Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) will return to normal operations (Operating Condition 5) at 5pm today.  Hazardous marine conditions will continue to affect coastal Chatham County.  CEMA will maintain close monitoring of the impacts as Hurricane Irene passes Chatham County.

Normal operations is the routine operating level of the CEMA Emergency Operations Center during hurricane season when there is no direct threat from a tropical cyclone.  Regular monitoring of the Atlantic Basin is conducted for tropical systems that may threaten coastal Georgia.

While Chatham County was spared by Hurricane Irene, residents should not get complacent.  With three months remaining in the 2011 hurricane season, now is the time to review plans and preparations.
