News CEMA Staff Members to Support Tornado Recovery Efforts in North Georgia

Savannah, GA - (May 3, 2011)

The Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) has requested two staff members from the Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) to assist with tornado recovery efforts.  Staff will leave Tuesday, May 3 to provide support to areas of the South devastated by last week's deadly tornadoes.

EM Specialists Jennifer Rodriguez and Kate Underwood will assist in Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) in North Georgia.  Although assignments are subject to change based on event needs, initials plans are to supplement staffing at DRCs in Troup County and Meriwether, GA.

A DRC is a mobile office set up to help those whose homes or businesses were damaged by Wednesday's tornadoes apply for federal assistance.  DRCs are set up in various counties in the seven states hit by the tornadoes.  Both Rodriguez and Underwood will deploy for seven days.
