News Highway Could See Flooding; No Reports of Road Closing

Hurricane Irene May Cause Flooding on Highway 80
Savannah, GA - (August 26, 2011)

Due to Hurricane Irene parts of Highway 80 could flood; however, at this time there are no pre-planned closures of the road.

There will be an extremely high tide Friday night, plus there will likely be storm tide on top of the high tide.  This means there is the possibility water could encroach onto Highway 80 between Tybee Island and Wilmington Island.

Flooding problems could occur between 5:30pm and 8pm.  If conditions appear to be hazardous to motorists, emergency response personnel will decide if safety measures need to be implemented.

At this time residents are urged to be cautious when driving on Highway 80.
