CEMA TO HOLD OPEN HAZARDOUS MATERIALS RESPONSE TRAINING
Savannah, GA– September 23rd, 2009

SAVANNAH, Georgia – The Chatham County Emergency Management Agency
(CEMA) will be hosting a FREE hazardous materials response training this
evening, Wednesday, September 23rd at the Port Wentworth City Hall at
6:30 PM. All members of the public are encouraged to attend.

The training will assist residents in mitigating, preparing for,
responding to and recovering from the effects of an hazardous materials
spill or release. In addition, residents will learn about Chatham
County’s Hazardous Materials Plan as well as precautions that residents
may take now to ensure the safety of themselves and their families.

“All residents need to prepare now in the event that a hazardous
materials spill should occur in their community,” stated Clayton Scott,
Director of CEMA. “By participating in this evening’s training,
residents will have an understanding of the role that they play if and
when there is ever a release of hazardous materials in the community.”

Topics to be covered in the training include family preparedness
actions, community resource surveys, emergency reporting, hazardous
materials response, evacuation and sheltering-in-place.
