Preparedness

The City of Houston created a video designed to teach people how to react during a workplace shooting by emphasizing three words:  run, hide, fight.

The city used federal grants to produce the video, which was released following the deadly shootings at the Aurora, Colorado movie theater in July 2012.  The suspect, James Eagan Holmes, was arrested for the shooting that killed 12 people and injured 58.

If you haven't been in a real active shooter situation, chances are you may not know how to react.  What if someone walked into the mall and started shooting, what would you do?  Or worse, what if you were sitting at your desk in your office and you heard gunshots, would you run, hide, or fight?  The City of Houston hopes this video will answer some of the questions you may have and give you a better idea of what to do.

As an Emergency Management Agency, CEMA is always promoting preparedness and education and it doesn't always have to do with hurricanes and tornadoes.  Often times some of the deadliest attacks are man-made.

So please take five minutes and watch this video.  It could save your life.
